“Un-Market” Your Business Using Social Media

Read a great post over at Brian Solis’s blog , titled “21 Rules of Engagement in Social Media”… exerpted from his new book (Engage !).  I really like his list…although some may find it obvious…because it explains the counter-intuitive philosophy which is so hard for some people to get:  DON’T SELL.  So many people are just spewing canned content, not engaging.

In fact, I love the term “un-market”(did Brian Solis coin it?” OK if I borrow it?) which is actually the title of this blog post.  It seems to be the paradox of social media…very zen, actually… that the more we participate beyond our own communities, and engage in a non selfish way, the more good karma (ROI) comes back to you.

Great article – what I got out of it is confidence and confirmation of how thorough and appropriately focused our SUNY Purchase Social Media Marketing Certificate classes are and have been.

Forgot to mention… Have you checked out the blog socialmediaexaminer.com. I stumbled upon it last week – several great posts since – I even subscribed to their daily newsletter… Thought it might be helpful or interesting.
